Projects

This is a collection of some of the writing pieces and projects I have worked on throughout my education. Each of these assignments helped me develop important skills and grow as both a professional and a team player. The skills I have gained through these experiences will be valuable in any role or company I am a part of.

Building public trust is especially important for companies operating in highly regulated and reputation-sensitive industries. This short report was written to recommend my internship at Phillips & Cohen Associates, ways to strengthen public trust by improving its online transparency and engagement. Our company is a debt collecting agency and we have a very strong reputation compared to others. We also looked at another example where Dell was able to use social media to transform its image. So, when putting these two together it was a good framework for how Phillips and Cohen could use social media too, and I described that in the short report. Some of the ways Dell did it was through reputation through openness, direct communication, and visible responsiveness, then adapted into Phillips and Cohen I said things like launching a transparency hub, producing educational videos, highlighting employee voices, and hosting virtual Q&A sessions. Skills required to write this report were to look at background information, analyze a real company’s digital presence, and present clear, organized recommendations in a professional tone. It further shows my ability to research and think through strategies for a real company that I worked at, and could actually be shared with them to help create more profit and a better reputation. This can be very valuable in any communication, marketing, or client-facing role.

Understanding how brands persuade audiences through visuals and cultural relevance is essential in modern marketing. To demonstrate this skill, I analyzed an Apple “Shot on iPhone” billboard which had Travis Scott on it and I was supposed to identify its rhetorical situation which is audience, purpose, and context. Using these three ideas I was supposed to show why it was so effective to us viewers. I tried to focus on how the simple visual design, the phrase “Shot on iPhone On Tour,” and the cultural connection to someone like Travis Scott work together to gather more of an audience in this social media heavy world today. In this writing I show that I can look beyond just the surface level parts of an image and explain things like ethos, pathos, and cultural context shaping viewers’ attitudes about the iPhone’s camera and Apple’s brand. It also shows my ability to break down a complex image and message, and write about what it does to an audience and its purpose while also connecting real life marketing strategies to cultural trends.

A mission statement's purpose is to clearly show a company’s identity, values, and long-term purpose to both customers and employees. In this piece, I made a mission statement for Verona Pizza Maple Glen that highlights its longevity, sense of community, and commitment to quality. Some major aspects that I wanted to include were some of the restaurant's history and what they believe in whether it's the atmosphere or the actual product they provide. One of my other focuses when making this was using language that would really connect Verona with the customers. This writing shows some of my abilities because I took a brand's values and turned that into a concise, memorable statement that is not only creative but professional enough for a business. It also helped me understand how important and purposeful language is when writing about brands and customer loyalty, which play key roles in marketing, branding, and communication roles.

In the business world you will have many different problems that you have to face. During these times of crisis it is very important to have effective communication to protect a brand’s reputation and maintain public trust. In this memo I looked at a real world crisis when DiGiorno posted a very insensitive comment. What I did was outline a clear, professional response strategy for internal stakeholders. It focuses on taking accountability, being empathic for people affected and the actual steps they will take to solve the problem. This piece shows how I am able to write in a professional corporate tone while also being sensitive towards an issue that people might be affected by. It also demonstrates skills in crisis communication, leadership messaging, and strategic problem-solving, which are important when dealing with public relation roles and just communication when managing a business.

Globalization is one of the biggest drivers of economic economic systems, political structures, and cultural dynamics. When looking at how businesses take advantage of this can be extremely helpful in seeing why some succeed and some do not. I examined the globalization of the National Basketball Association to argue that globalization can have a mainly positive impact when it is guided by cultural awareness, ethical leadership, and thoughtful decision-making. I thought the NBA was a great example to use as it is one of the most global and well known companies in the entire world. So, I analyzed how liberal economic policies enabled international expansion, how cultural differences shaped the league’s success and challenges abroad, and how political systems influenced business decisions in regions such as China, Africa, and the Middle East. This was an ongoing paper throughout a few months where I incorporated new ideas and concepts as they came. To do this essay I had to use complex material and apply it to a real world organization, and support everything with evidence using critical thinking. These skills are valuable in roles that require global awareness, strategic thinking, and the ability to evaluate how businesses operate across different markets and cultures.
